For years supervisors of the New York City Department of Markets have been collecting thousands of dollars a month in petty graft from Jewish butchers and delicatessen dealers in Brooklyn and Queens, according to charges laid yesterday before Mayor Walker by Oscar Glassberg, who has been a butcher in Brooklyn for the past twenty-five years.

Mr. Glassberg stated that on four different occasions in the last few years supervisors of the Department of Markets have brought him to court on charges of violating the law applying to the sale of kosher and non-kosher meat, after he decided to discontinue periodical payments of $5 or $10. Glassberg alleges that his repeated arrests were the result of an announced determination on the part of the supervisors whom he names to “get him”, and that Commissioner Thomas V. Dwyer himself appeared in court on the last occasion and told the justices that his department was very much interested in pressing the case against Glassberg.
