An explanation by officials of WNYC, municipal radio station, of the Arab broadcast June 5, denying that it included any slights to the Jews and defending the program on the ground of free speech, was accepted today by the Board of Aldermen.
Commissioner of Plant and Structures Frederick J.H. Kracke, under whose department the station operates, and Dr. Seymour Siegel, its director, called before the aldermen, denied that the Arab speaker, Amoon Rihani, had called on young Arabs in this country to form a military organization, or had sarcastically recommended the State of Texas as a refuge for Jews.
He cited Dr. Stephen S. Wise’s statement defending the station in permitting the Arab broadcast, and presented letters to the same effect from Felix Warburg, Sol M. Stroock, the National Council of Jewish Women, B’nai B’rith, Representative Samuel Dickstein and the New York Civil Liberties Committee.
