Charles W. Morris of Louisville, Ky., was today named to head the 1948 nation-wide Joint Defense Appeal drive for $6,104,540 at tie closing session of the three-day second annual meeting of the J.D.A.
Morris was unanimously elected chairman of the J.D.A. National Council comprising 587 Jewish communal leaders. He succeeds Donald Oberdorfor “who was reelected chairman of the organization’s executive committee.
In addition, the final session adopted several resolutions concerning intensification of activities in the local communities. The delegates resolved to intensify the J.D.A. campaign on stats, regional and local levels in an effort to fulfill the 1948 quota for the financing of the anti-racist activities of the American Jewish Committee and the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League. The parley also decided to educate communal leaders to the importance of the J.D.A. campaign and the aims of the two participating organizations.
