The Chicago Board of Rabbis has called on all congregations and individual Jews to observe “Yom Ha Shoah,” a day of remembrance for the six million Jews of Europe slaughtered by the Nazis in World War II. The memorial will be held May 2-3 which coincides with the 27th day of the Hebrew calendar month of Nissan. The call for observance suggested that special services and memorial meetings be held on the date and that Jewish groups and individuals should refrain from participating in festivities or celebrations on the occasion. A community wide memorial meeting sponsored by the Chicago Board of Rabbis will be held on Sunday. May 3.
