More than $1,200,000 in contributions was received by the Jewish Federation of Chicago in honor of its executive director, Samuel A. Goldsmith, it was announced here last night at a dinner celebrating Mr. Goldsmith’s 25th anniversary as executive head of the Federation. The affair was attended by more than 1,100 guests who contributed sums from $1,000 to $50,000 in advance of the dinner.
Speakers at the dinner commended Mr. Goldsmith for his service to the community. They included Herbert R. Abeles, president of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds; Mortimer B. Harris, president of the Jewish Federation; Frederick W. Straus, president of the Jewish Welfare Fund of Chicago; Dr. Herman N. Bundensen, president of the Board of Health of Chicago, and others. Among the honors received by Mr. Goldsmith was his election as executive vice-president of the Jewish Federation.
