Ground will be broken Sunday for a new $2,000,000 Jewish community center to serve the growing Jewish community in the North and Northwest regions of metropolitan Chicago.
Hamilton M. Loeb Jr., president of the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago, disclosed that the new center will include an auditorium, nursery school, drama workshop, meeting rooms, gymnasium, swimming pool, health clubs for men and women, arts and crafts centers, young people’s lounges, and game rooms. Extensive outdoor facilities will include ball fields, playgrounds and tennis courts. One wing will be occupied by a Golden Age Day center, which will be the first community center operating every day for elderly persons.
The center, which is financed by the Chicago Jewish Federation’s United Building Fund, is part of an $8,500,000 UBF campaign to improve facilities for Federation’s hospitals, homes for the aged, community centers and children’s bureau. The building will be completed in 1960.
