A temporary shelter for Jewish emigrants was provided in Bucharest on the initiative and with the assistance of Adolph Copeland of Chicago, vice-president of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society of America, who visited here recently.
Many emigrants coming from the provinces are compelled to wait here many weeks before they can complete the formalities previous to their departing for lands overseas. Many of them find themselves in a’ difficult situation, having no place to stay while they wait. With an initial equipment expense provided by Mr. Copeland, the local Jewish Shelter House was turned over to the Bucharest branch of the Hias to house the emigrants.
Mr. Copeland visited several European countries during his stay in the interest of the emigrant welfare work. Prior to his departure for Warsaw on his return to the United States a banquet was given in his honor.
