Dr. Immanuel Jakobovits, Chief Rabbi of Ireland, who arrived here last week, was received yesterday by Mayor Robert F. Wagner at City Hall in the presence of Eamon Gallagher, vice-consul of Ireland, and Orthodox Jewish dignitaries. The Mayor was especially interested in details of Jewish life in Ireland outlined for him by the rabbi. There are 5,000 Jews in Ireland, most of them residing in Dublin.
Chief Rabbi Jakobovits who is 38 years old, was born in Germany and brought to London by his parents in his early youth. He is a graduate of London University, where he received his doctorate for his works “Medical Ethics in the Talmud.” He is also a graduate of a London yeshiva. He will remain in the United States for six weeks.
