Dr. Jacob Kaplan, chief rabbi of Paris, has been promoted to the rank of commander in the French Legion of Honor, one of the highest ranks in that order, it was announced here today. The promotion, which was hailed in Jewish circles here, raised Rabbi Kaplan to equal status in the order with Cardinal Feltin, head of the Catholic church in France, and with Pastor Westphal, leading Protestant churchman.
