The assurance that Chile would not become anti-Semitic was expressed in an article which the famous Chilean writer, Joachin Bello, wrote in answer to an anti-Jewish discussion of the notorious “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” which appeared in the anti-Semitic newspaper El Imparcial.

“I do not believe that Chile will become anti-Semitic,” Senor Bello wrote. “That would be the greatest absurdity, and anti-American besides.”

Following the appearance of the poisonous attack in El Imparcial, Leon Diamond, editor of the local Yiddishe Presse, sent copies of Lucien Wolff’s brochure exposing the absurdity of the “Protocols” to a number of outstanding authors and journalists.

Senor Bello’s article on the possibility of Hitlerism’s gaining ground in Chile was his acknowledgment of the pamphlet.

“While I am personally in agreement with many of the principles of Chilean Fascism I must decry its being labelled as Naziism, which implies false problems and such as are inapplicable to America. It is too bad that we are as imitative as monkeys and cannot yet be original,” Senor Bello wrote.
