Gen. Augusto Pinochet Ugarte, President of Chile, sent “warm greetings” to the Jewish community on the occasion of Yom Kippur. The message, addressed to Gil Sinay, president of the Representative Committee of the Jewish Communities of Chile, said:
“Today, on the Day of Forgiveness, the date of such deep meaning for the Jewish world, it is my wish to present you and through your worthy and valuable conduct, the warm greetings of the government over which I preside and in my own name, to the entire Jewish community. In this day of brother-hood and meditation, we join your prayers with the hope that God will enlighten us to strengthen our bonds, to join our efforts and sacrifices to guide us in wisdom through the right way of comprehension, sincerity, peace and justice.”
