Straus’ “The Chocolate Soldier,” one of the outstanding musical comedy hits of recent years, reopens this evening at the St. James Theatre with an all-star cast and at popular prices.
The cast is headed by Charles Purcell, Donald Brian and Bernice Claire. Purcell and Brian will alternate in the leading role, playing three days each. This is the first time in legitimate theatre history that an arrangement of this kind has been tried and Broadway is watching its outcome.
Other members in the cast of principals will include John Dunsmure, Detmar Poppen, Fritzi Von Busing, Lauretta Brislin and Parker Steward.
In addition there will be a chorus of forty singers and an augmented symphony orchestra.
