The 960 member Lawyers’ Club of Toronto has unanimously decided to invite the total male membership of the Reading Law Club, a Jewish fraternity, to merge with it. The Reading Law Club has accepted the offer and all its male members will now automatically belong to the Lawyers’ Club, it was announced here today.

The Lawyers’ Club, until the year 1951, had a clause restricting membership to attorneys who were male, Christian and white. After this clause was removed only a few Jewish lawyers joined. However, both clubs had excellent relations and frequently held Joint meetings. For the coming season 1964-1965, the dues of the 330 members of the Reading Law Club will be applied to the Lawyers’ Club and for the first year they will have two places on the Board of Trustees.
