In a recent interview released to the National Conference on Soviet Jewry by the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, the noted heart surgeon, Dr. Christian Barnard and his brother, Dr. Marius Barnard, commented on the trial of Dr. Mikhail Stern, a practicing physician for more than 25 years in the remove Ukrainian city of Vinnitsa who was sentenced to eight years in prison. The noted South African doctors said that they are “not prepared to believe that a man regarded as a noted endocrinologist and medical doctor will stoop to the trivial and ridiculous crimes alleged, We strongly protest the incarceration of Dr. Mikhail Stern.”
