Campaigns against anti-Semitiem were being pressed today by Catholic and Protestant groups. A Committee of Catholics to Fight Anti-Semitism was formed, including clergymen, writers, labor leaders and others, to fight race hatred by education. A pamphlet by Monsignor John A. Ryan, issued by the National Catholic Welfare Conference, stressed the incompatibility of American democracy and Christianity with anti-Semitism. A report urging churches to cooperate in eradicating anti-Semitism was issued by the Federal Council of (Protestant) Churches of Christ.
In Chicago, John A. Lapp, prominent Catholic layman, declared in a radio address that Father Charles E. Coughlin, as a hero in Nazi Germany and a man who used anti-Semitic speeches by Propaganda Minister Goebbels, “deserves the loss of the moral respect of all right-minded citizens.”
