A proposal that leaders of all religious groups hold a conference to discuss the issue of religious teaching in the public schools was made here this weekend in an editorial in “The Observer,” official publication of the United Church of Canada.
Noting that “Christians should not ignore the published complaints of their Jewish neighbors” against such instruction, the periodical states: “We are deeply concerned about the rights of individuals, whether or not they belong to minorities.”
Word was received here today from Winnipeg that the Manitoba Royal Commission on Education has recommended the introduction of religious instruction in public schools.
