Prime Minister Winston Churchill today was pictured as pro-Zionist by Commander Oliver Locker-Lampson, Conservative M.P., in an address before a conference of the Federation of Polish Jews in Great Britain.
“I can assure you,” Commander Locker-Lampson added, “that we can leave in his hands the future of the Jews.”
The conference was held in an East End hall under the chairmanship of L. Jocowicz, with a representative of the Polish Government-in-exile in attendance.
Messages were received from the Archbishop of Canterbury, ex-War Secretary Leslie Hore-Belisha, Lord Strabolgi, Prof. Noman Bentwich, Dr. Ignacy Schwartzbart, and Benjamin Winter, of the American Federation of Polish Jews.
The conference welcomed the Polish Government’s November declaration white regard to Jewish rights in a post-war free Poland, which was confirmed by the recent proclamation by Premier Wladislaw Sikorski; pledged close collaboration with and understanding of the Polish National Government, and endorsed the activities undertaken by the Federation in behalf of Polish Jewish nationals stranded in Allied and neutral countries. The conference also endorsed efforts to create unity among Polish Jewish nationals in Britain and to enhance the religious life of Polish Jewry in Britain.
