City College Class Walks out on Professor Charged with Anti-semitic Discrimination

Some 20 men and women Students at City College today walked out of a Spanish class in protest against their assigned instructor, Prof. William E. Knickerbocker, who has been charged with anti-Semitic discrimination against a student, it was announced here by Rabbi Arthur Zuckerman, director of the Hillel Foundation at the College.

The members of the class protested to Dean Morton Gottschall and demanded that a new instructor be assigned to the class. Rabbi Zuckerman said he too would urge the appointment of a new instructor. Charges have been filed against Prof. Knickerbocker, who has taught a the College for over 35 years, based on his failure to award a medal for scholarship proficiency to a Jewish student, Morton Gurewitch, and on remarks he allegedly made about Gurewitch.
