The City of Amsterdam yesterday bought two famous synagogues located in the former Jewish center of the city which was laid waste by the Nazis during the occupation.
The two synagogues, purchased from the Ashkenazi community, went for the price of 500,000 Dutch guilders. A third synagogue, located in the old Amsterdam ghetto, was purchased earlier by the city to be used as an architectural museum.
