Mayor LaGuardia has agreed to the organization of one or two Yiddish theatres to give free performances to the Jewish unemployed of the city, Reuben Guskin, manager of the Hebrew Actors Union, revealed at a membership meeting of the union.
The theatres, according to the report, will be maintained from city relief funds and will furnish employment for a number of Jewish actors.
Guskin asserted that the Mayor’s decision followed a report, made to him by a number of well-known Jews on unemployment prevalent among Jewish actors. Details of the plan will be announced within two weeks, Guskin declared.
Over 200 Jewish actors attended the meeting.
