A delegation of American Jewish community leaders representing the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds left for the United States yesterday winding up a month-long South American tour that brought them into contact with their counterparts in Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The purpose of the tour, as stated by Louis Fox, president of the CJFWF, was to exchange ideas with the leaders of Latin American Jewry and to assist them, where called for, in such matters as community organization, education, fund-raising and leadership.

The group met yesterday with the heads of the Buenos Aires Jewish Community Council at the new $1 million “education palace” of the local Jewish community which will house a teachers seminary, schools, a library and other educational facilities. Speakers included Mr. Fox, Philip Bernstein, executive vice president of the CJFWF, and Lavy Backer of Montreal. They spoke of the information they gathered throughout the visit and the importance of maintaining strong bonds between North and South American Jewry. Dr. Tobias Kamenszain, president, and Hirsh Triwaks, secretary of the Buenos Aires Jewish Community, spoke of the similarities and differences between North and South American Jewish communities.
