The executive committee of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, announced today that a concrete offer from the German Government was expected in the near future. It said that the nature of that offer would determine whether there was any basis for resumption of The Hague talks.
The committee met today and reviewed recent developments in connection with the negotiations for satisfaction of Jewish material claims against Germany. Dr. Nahum Goldmann reported on his meeting with Chancellor Adenauer in Paris on May 28, when Dr. Adenauer stated that the German Federal Government would submit a concrete offer in the very near future.
In a communique following the meeting, the committee expressed “hope that the offer, which has not been received as yet, would provide a basis for the resumption of negotiations.” It said that the “executive committee reaffirmed its earliest decision to resume negotiations only after the Government of Israel decided to do likewise” and announced its decision to call a meeting of the policy committee of the conference, composed of all member organizations, as soon as issues arise requiring policy decisions.”
