Clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian stone-throwers continued in several West Bank towns as a U.S. envoy tried to restore calm to the region. One of Tuesday’s confrontations took place in Ramallah, where U.S. Middle East envoy Dennis Ross met with Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat. The violence was less intense than the day before, when three Palestinians were killed and hundreds more wounded in clashes that also left 15 Israeli soldiers wounded.
