Cleveland Jewish Welfare Fund Gets $3,733,224 at Opening of 1963 Drive

Pledges totaling $3, 733, 224 for 62 percent of its record-high goal of $6,036,000 were reported at the official opening meeting last night of the Jewish Welfare Fund Appeal. Rabbi Arthur J. Lelyveld, general chairman of the campaign, presided at the kick-off event.

United Jewish Appeal medals and scrolls were presented to a group on the occasion of the national fund-raising organization’s 25th anniversary. Forty-two men and women were presented silver Kiddush cups in recognition of 25 or more years of service to the Cleveland Jewish Welfare Fund Appeal, and 21 women, current and former chairmen of the Women’s Division, received similar gifts.

M.E. Glass is president, and Henry L. Zucker, executive director, of The Jewish Community Federation, sponsor of the annual appeal, of which Gerald S. Soroker is campaign director. The Cleveland campaign closes on the evening of May 16.
