The Jewish community of Cleveland followed local election developments with close interest despite the absence of any specific Jewish interests. Most Cleveland Jews live in the suburbs and thus had little part in the voting which led to the re-election of Mayor Carl B. Stokes, by a narrow margin. Mr. Stokes was the first Negro to win election as mayor of a major American city two years ago.
A Jewish community spokesman pointed out that “the Jewish community has a history of cooperation with Carl Stokes and there was a great deal of interest in the election because of the human relations component.” Jews were in evidence lending support to both Mayor Stokes and to his opponent, Ralph J.
