An intra-congregational feud which for a time flared out in the form of court hearings will be resumed Saturday night when the Congregation Czenstochauer Chasam Sopher W’Anshei Unterstantestier of 8-10 Clinton street holds a general election of officers and a complete reorganization of the synagogue’s administration.
Saturday night’s elections will bring to a head a dispute which saw Lieber Grill and Samuel Selkowitz hurling bitter charges and counter-charges at each other. Grill until recently was the congregation’s president while Selkowitz, an accountant in the employ of New York State, was its financial secretary.
The two men on Saturday night will vie for presidency of the synagogue, which during recent weeks has been under the administration of a temporary committee, pending settlement of intra-mural difficulties. Herman Koenigsberg, a third candidate for the chief executive’s office, also is listed on the ballot.
Rabbi Ire Kaufman and Samuel Murray Lovett, attorney for Selkowitz, will preside over the elections, which will see a complete new state of officers placed in charge.
A maze of litigation, which has characterized the dispute up to this time, has been suspended temporarily, pending of Saturday right’s elections and auditing of the synagogue’s books by a certified public accountant.
