A new medical center sponsored by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America will be named in memory of Sidney Hillman, the Jewish labor leader who headed the union, it was announced here last night by Dr. Sol Stein, director of the National Committee for Labor Israel, at a dinner in honor of Jacob S. Potofsky, president of the union.
Some 800 leaders of management and labor attended the dinner at which Mr. Potofsky was lauded for his leadership in the labor movement and for his efforts on behalf of the Histadrut, Israel’s labor federation. A message from President Lyndon B. Johnson praising Mr. Potofsky was read at the dinner. Proceeds of the dinner will go to expand the Mayer H. Bernstein Children’s Pavilion at the Central Emek Hospital in Israel.
