Cornelius Zelea Codreanu, head of the Fascist Iron Guard, went on trial here today on charges of treason, espionage, and rebellion against the State.
The defense asked to call as witnesses several lieutenants of Codreanu now in prison or otherwise detained. Among these was named N. Ionescu, director of the newspaper Cuvantul who represented the Farben-Industry Trust of Germany in Rumania. The court said this request would be forwarded to the Ministry of Interior. There will be 117 witnesses, among them Jules Maniu, chief of the Peasant Party, and several high army officers.
