Col. Elliott A. Niles, national chairman of B’nai B’rith’s Service Committee to the Armed Forces and Veterans, died here at the age of 55, following a lingering illness. He was a brother of the late David K. Niles who served as a White House administrative assistant and advisor on minority groups during the Roosevelt and Truman administrations.
Col. Niles, a reserve officer who served in the Adjutant General’s office in Washington during World War II, was an active member of B’nai B’rith for more than 25 years. He helped plan the organization’s War Service program in World War II and personally initiated the Serve-A-Ship campaign in which B’nai B’rith lodges and chapters “adopted” more than 600 Navy vessels, supplying them with morale and recreational materials.
