One of the few Englishmen to remain in Israel after the Palestine Mandate was surrendered by Britain, Col. Guy was director of the British School of Archeology from 1935-39. He also served as dean of the Palestine Board of Higher Studies and as a member of the Palestine Soil Conservation Board, both before the end of the Mandate. He served as director of the Archeological Survey of Israel from 1948 until his death.
