The question of Palestine Jews’ participation in the country’s military defense forces was raised yesterday in the House of Commons by Col. Josiah Wedgwood.
Replying to Col. Wedgwood’s question whether Jews are admitted to the fighting service in Palestine and Transjordania, Col. Amery stated that 37 Jews served in the Transjordanian forces in 1926. Jews are not recruited for the air force and the armored car service in Palestine, but they are employed as civilians.
Col. Wedgwood then asked the secretary: “How long is this insulting exclusion of Jews going to continue?” To this Colonel Amery replied that no such exclusion exists. The Jews are serving in the local forces but in the British force recruited in England, they serve as civilians, he said.
