Colin Powell set forth a vision of peaceful Israeli-Palestinian coexistence. “We have a vision of a region where two states, Israel and Palestine, live side by side within secure and recognized borders,” the U.S. secretary of state said Monday. He also said the Palestinian intifada is “mired in the quicksand of self-defeating violence.” In a speech at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, Powell also called on Israel to “end its occupation” of Palestinian lands and to halt the “indignities” it forces on the Palestinian population.
