There is a growing belief in political circles here that the Royal Commission will seek a solution of Palestine problems in geographical rather than sociopolitical measures.
Reports that the Commission is now weighing a plan for partition of Palestine between Jews and Arabs, which have been appearing in British newspapers during the past week, were carried by the liberal News Chronicle.
The paper’s political correspondent points out that cantonization of the Holy Land is being considered as an alternative measure, but a majority of the Commission is opposing it on the grounds that it would permit racial strife “pockets” the country over.
Declaring that the critical stage has been reached in the Commission’s deliberations, the correspondent asserts the work is still far from completion.
“The final, vital discussions, however, still have to take place,” he declares, adding that the question is not only for the British Government but for the League of Nations as well to decide.
