The Joint Distribution Committee aided more than 200, 000 men, women and children in 1958, according to a report issued here today by the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The report, mentioning the JDC’s work among the activities of other non-governmental organizations, shows that more than 100, 000 of those helped by the JDC in 1958 were in Moslem lands, principally in North Africa and Iran; 57, 000 were in Europe; 40, 000 in Israel and more than 4, 000 in other areas such as Australia.
According to the High Commissioner “perhaps the most notable single development of 1958 was the assistance which the JDC had undertaken to Jews in Poland, By the end of 1958, the Commissioner reported, JDC aid in Poland had reached some 22, 000 individuals. The Commissioner reported that JDC’s 1958 expenditures totaled $27, 703, 400 for its operations in Israel, Moslem countries and Europe.
