The Government of Lithuania, by its recent violation of the rights of the Jewish population of the country, has transgressed against the Lithuanian Constitution and has ignored the solemn declaration made by representatives of the Lithuanian Government on May 12, 1922, before the League of Nations.
In this declaration, the representatives of the Lithuanian Government assured the League of Nations that the rights of the National Minorities in the country would be honored and that no restrictions would be imposed upon the languages of the National Minorities. They also promised freedom of religious worship and of the press.
These pledges have been broken by the recent action of the Lithuanian Government, by abolishing the national institutions of the Minorities, by prohibiting signs in non-Lithuanian languages and by the recent Sunday Closing Law.
This is sufficient reason for action to be taken by the League of Nations against the Lithuanian Government, it was declared today in leading circles of the Committee of Jewish Delegations in Paris. The Committee is watching the events with a view to taking necessary action with the League.
