In your issue of March 5th mention is made that a Jewish chapel was dedicated at the Ohio State Penitentiary, with a further explanation that this is the second Jewish chapel in a penal institution in the United States.

I want to advise you, in this regard, that at the Eastern State Penitentiary, located in Philadelphia, Pa., about eight years ago a Jewish chapel was constructed and dedicated. This is now being renovated by the Jewish inmates at that institution with funds contributed by them.

The prison aid work at the Eastern State Penitentiary, as well as at the country prisons of Philadelphia, is being conducted by the L. O. B. B., District No. 3.

Yours very truly.

William Portner.

Philadelphia, Pa., March 8, 1929.

Approximately 10,000 persons in Brooklyn attended “Federation Sabbath” services in the 100 synagogues, temples and Jewish Centers of Brooklyn, held in connection with the annual campaign of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities.

An appeal for concerted observance of the services was issued by Rabbi Israel H. Levinthal, president of the Brooklyn Jewish Ministers’ Association.

The Hebrew Institute and the Y. M. & W. H. A. of New Haven, Conn., are conducting a campaign for $25,000. The purpose of the campaign is to provide a maintenance fund for both institutions. Hyman Jacobs, president of the Hebrew Institute, is chairman of the campaign, and Louis M. Sagal, president of the Y. M. & W. H. A. treasurer.
