Communist-controlled Jewish Social, Cultural Union in Poland to Fight Illiteracy

The recently established Jewish Social and Cultural Union of Poland, which is controlled by Communists, has issued a statement of aims which include the “eradication of illiteracy” among Polish Jews, reports reaching here from Warsaw state.

The Union also announced its intention of creating schools and special study centers where Jews can learn “Marxist and Leninist” theory. At a recent meeting in Lodz, the reports stated, Dr. M. Stard, a representative of the Union, said that a new Jewish theater would be built in that city next year. He also spoke of the growing number of Yiddish books published in Poland.
