A list of prominent Jewish cultural leaders annihilated in the Soviet Union is published today in the Freiheit, pro-Communist daily newspaper. It is reprinted from the Folkstimme, Jewish Communist organ in Warsaw, Poland. The executions are attributed to “the Beria gang,” blaming the former head of the Soviet secret service system for them.
The list includes the names of S. Diamanstein, head of the Jewish section of the Communist Party in Moscow; Moshe Litvakov, editor of the defunct Emes, official Jewish Communist organ in the USSR; A. Merezhin, head of the Soviet Government office which supervised Jewish colonization in Crimea, the Ukraine and Biro-Bidjan; Esther Frumkin and Rachmiel Weinstein, prominent labor leaders; Issie Charik and Moshe Kulbak, noted poets; H. Dunietz, famous Jewish critic, and others.
