The police dispersed several small groups of Communists who were distributing anti-religious leaflets to-day in Warsaw, while Jews were going to the synagogue.
The synagogues and Beth Midrashim were crowded everywhere, and hundreds of small halls which were arranged for services were packed. Because of the economic crisis, there was very little offering during the Reading of the Law. Large numbers of Hassidim went on pilgrimage to Gur-Kalvarie, to the famous Gerer Rabbi.
The sudden death to-day through heart attack of Joseph Emanuel Landsmann, a Jewish conversionist from London, who had just arrived here to conduct a big conversionist campaign among the Polish Jews, caused a great deal of discussion in the synagogues. Landsmann was 63 years of age.
