The concession for the exploitation of the Dead Sea to obtain potash may shortly be granted by the British Colonial Office, a report in the London “Daily Chronicle” states today.
The number of applicants for the concession has been reduced to two or three and it is probable that they will be united into one concession group. The concession may be given for a period of 21 or 25 years.
A commission of the Colonial Office, which investigated the commercial possibility of the region, reported that there would be no difficulty in extracting 100,000 tons of potash annually from the Dead Sea. The newspaper adds that the commission was extremely cautious in its estimate in the possible exploitation of this inexhaustable reservoir. With the securing of a good management, Palestine can be made a country flowing with milk and honey and the Dead Sea will be a decisive factor in the industrial revival of Palestine’s prosperity, the paper states.
