Condoleezza Rice set out the parameters for a Palestinian state. Addressing the American Jewish Committee on May 9, the U.S. national security adviser said the Bush administration supports the idea of a Palestinian state, but said it “must be based on the principles that are critical to freedom and prosperity: democracy and open markets, the rule of law, accountable administration and respect for individual liberties and civil society.”
