Condoleezza Rice was mostly mum on plans to subpoena her testimony in the trial of two former AIPAC staffers. “I’m not going to comment on a legal matter,” the U.S. secretary of state told JTA in an exclusive interview Tuesday at the United Jewish Communities’ General Assembly in Nashville. “Obviously I always cooperate with our legal system, but I’m not going to talk about specifics.” Rice and other top Bush administration officials have been subpoenaed to testify in the classified information trial of Steve Rosen, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s former foreign policy chief, and Keith Weissman, its former Iran analyst. Rosen and Weissman want to show that the alleged conversations at the core of their indictment were routine and identical in some cases with conversations they and other AIPAC officials had with Rice and others. “We expect Condoleezza Rice to comply with the subpoena like every other citizen of the United States,” said Baruch Weiss, a lawyer for Weissman.
