The possibility that the widely known art collection of the late Dr. Claribel Cone, Baltimore scientist and art connoisseur, eventually will pass as a unit into the keeping of the new Municipal Museum of Art here, together with a fund of $100,000 for housing, preserving and maintaining the collection, was learned today.
Under the terms of Dr. Cone’s will, filed late yesterday, the large accumulation of paintings, chiefly by famous leaders and representatives of the postimpressionist and modern schools, of textiles, objects d’art, furniture, etc. may be acquired by the museum after the death of Dr. Cone’s sister, Miss Etta Cone, or in the latter’s lifetime if this should be her wish. It is suggested, however, that this may be done if “the spirit of appreciation of modern art in Baltimore becomes improved.”
The will, besides providing for the disposition of her art collection and making bequests to a number of relatives, friends and family servants, sets aside sums for charities and institutions.
