Arrangements are being made for a meeting in London this February to coordinate the views of leading Jewish organizations in the British Empire and France, it was announced here today by Leonard Stein, chairman of the Anglo-Jewish Association, in his annual report to a general meeting of that group.
Invitations to the proposed meeting have been sent to the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the Canadian Jewish Congress, the Jewish National Council of Palestine, the Board of Deputies of South African Jews and the Jewish Consistory and Alliance Israelite of France. It has been suggested that invitations also be sent to Jewish communities in Europe wherever possible.
Mr. Stein remarked that the difficulties in Palestine must be given serious consideration, but should not be regarded as insurmountable. He said “the Bevin statement is a test of Jewish morale and a challenge to Jewish statesmanship. Jews may differ amongst themselves on their feelings towards Palestine, but no Jew would fail to regard it as a calamity if the work begun under the Balfour Declaration should be brought to naught.”
