Arrangements are being perfected between the leaders and supporters of the “Ort” in New York and Chicago, for the holding, in the near future, of a conference to consider ways and means of carrying on the reconstruction work in Russia, now that the Joint Distribution Committee has withdrawn from that region. The “Ort” is an organization whose purpose is to promote agriculture and productive trades among the Jewish population in Russia, and is one of the most important factors in Jewish reconstruction work.
A temporary committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Dr. Julius Goldman, who was formerly European Director of the Joint Distribution Committee. The committee includes, in addition to the European delegation, Dr. Leo Bramson and Dr. A. Singalowsky, the following who are actively interested in the work: Cyrus Sulzberger, Dr. Lee K. Frankel, David Bressler, Dr. Nathan Krass, Samuel Heller, B. C. Vladeck, L. Budin, Herman Bernstein, M. Berman, Henry Alsherg, H. Lievenman.
Full support to the movement has also been promised by Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Judge Otto Rosalsky, Leon Komaiky, Mrs. Alexander Kohut, Bernard Semel, Morris Rothenberg, Judge Jacob Panken, John L. Bernstein, Adolph Held and many others.
