Israel Army sources have confirmed that Egyptian forces fired a number of rounds across the Suez Canal Monday night and that Israel had lodged a complaint with the United Nations Truce Observation Organization (UNTSO). Israeli forces did not return the fire. The incident was the first to involve shooting since the Suez cease-fire expired March 7. A military spokesman said that Egyptian gunners fired “a few bursts” across the waterway in its northern sector. There were no Israeli casualties.
