A number of synagogues and Beth Medrashim which were confiscated in Leningrad have now been returned to the worshippers. The synagogues were returned following representations to the central authorities.
There is a serious shortage of Jewish religious books in Soviet Russia, Deputy Dubin, the leader of the Agudah in Latvia, declared to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency representative here. There is a great scarcity of Hebrew prayer books, Pentateuchs, Bibles, Talmuds. The only prayer books which are still available are those which were printed in the year of the Revolution by the Lubavitcher Rebbe at his own printing press in Rostov and reprints from the stereotypes made in Poltava.
