The international congress of the World Ort Union opened here today marking the organization’s 85th anniversary. Dr. William Haber, president of the World Ort Union, presided over the opening session which was addressed by Zalman Aranne, Israel’s minister of education; Rome Chief Rabbi Elio Toaff; and Daniel Mayer, chairman of the Ort executive.
Among the guests attending the session with the delegates from 30 countries were the Ambassadors of Israel, France, Sweden and other countries, and representatives of the Italian Government. Eulogies were delivered at the conference for Moses Leavitt, late executive vice-chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, by Dr. Haber and by Charles Jordan overseas director general of the JDC.
