Congressman Sol Bloom, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, celebrated his 75th birthday today by arranging parties for residents of several orphanages and homes for the aged, as he has done on previous birthdays.
In turn, he was gaven a party by the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House restaurant with former Gov. Herbert H. Lehman, now Director-General of UNRRA, and Leo Crowley, head of the Foreign Economic Administration, as principal speakers.
A member of the House since 1922, Bloom is one of the most influential members of that body and will be one of the eight U. S. delegates to the United Nations Conference at San Francisco. Bloom was born in Illinois of immigrant parents and spent his boyhood in San Francisco.
