Contributions continue to pour into the office of the Israel Voluntary Defense Fund, more than two months after the heroic rescue by the Israel Defense Force of hostages held by terrorists at Entebbe Airport in Uganda. Cabinet members have decided to donate IL 1000 each for the fund. The biggest individual contribution has come from Yekutiel Federman, of the Dan Hotel, an industrialist and banker, who contributed IL 500,000.
Moshe Gilboa, the Atlanta, Georgia-based Israel Consul General for the southeast United States who was assigned to head the fund at the Defense Ministry here, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that there is an increasing flow of contributions from abroad ranging from $50 to tens of thousands of dollars. Most of them are from the U.S., he said, but there are many from Scandinavia, Great Britain, France, Australia and Holland.

In this regard. Gilboa wrote a letter to Yitzhak Shargil, the JTA correspondent in Tel Aviv, stating that many of the contributors write that they were stimulated to make their donations as a result of an article by Shargil in the JTA Daily News Bulletin of Aug. 6, “To The Heroes Of Entebbe.”
In his letter to Shargil, Gilboa expressed his “profound thanks for reporting to the readers of the JTA throughout the world of the existence and activities of the Israel Voluntary Defense Fund….Quite a few letters which were attached to checks from abroad referred to your story in the JTA Bulletin and it seems were stimulated by it.”
